ABOUT THE RETREAT
Pull aside for three days of immersion and activation in the ancient practice of contemplation. This forgotten mode of awareness and silent reception to the presence of God engages our participation in the life of the Trinity.
We often conceive of spiritual growth as a process of attaining, arriving or acquiring. We think of prayer as a mere exercise of babbling words. But contemplative practice is about relationship that runs deeper than concepts and ideas … letting go of the outer noise and inner clutter that inhibits us from recognizing and experiencing the love and presence of God who has already united Himself to us in Christ. It is about experiencing a deeper, wordless wonder that transforms us by tangible love, and empowers us to recognize Jesus everywhere in the world around us.
Many of us never engage in a practice of silence, because our minds are constantly racing. But contemplation is a mode of being in which we find rest from the reactive thoughts, fears, anxieties, insecurities and trauma that tend to run our daily lives and decisions.
For those who truly taste God’s presence in silence, it becomes addictive. It will ruin a religious prayer life that chases “stages” and “levels” and opens our senses to the One who is the exhilarating ground of our very existence.
In this three-day retreat, we will address helpful basic practices (not formulas) from the ancient church, and explore the soul dynamics and challenges we face along the way as we take a deeper plunge by sheer grace into the experiential practice of God’s presence.
